President Trump has Turned the Corner
“Squawk Box” is my favorite television program. It’s on from 6 AM to 9 AM each weekday morning on CNBC.
It’s the best business show on television bar none. Becky Quick, Joe Kernen, and Andrew Ross Sorkin are the three primary hosts of the show, and their guests are leaders in business and government.
On “Squawk Box”, you won’t see any of the so-called Democrat and Republican “strategists” who appear on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC. “Squawk Box” guests are the real deal: congressional leaders, business CEOs, and other well-informed and well-qualified movers and shakers. Like I said, it’s the best business show on television.
Becky Quick is my favorite of the 3 primary hosts. She’s smart, objective, and informative.
I like Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin, too, but they have political biases that they can’t help but share. Kernen is the conservative. Sorkin is the “liberal progressive”. Both of them are smart, but I don’t watch “Squawk Box” to hear their political perspectives.
My natural inclination is to side with Kernen, but Sorkin is very smart, too. That’s why I hate calling him a “liberal progressive”. It’s probably more accurate to say that he is a New Yorker who drinks too much Kool-Aid.
Until the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last week, Sorkin was loaded for bear every day. He spouted Democratic talking points as though they were facts, and Kernen pushed back. If Sorkin were not likeable and smart, I would have had a hard time giving him any credit.
As I said, that was before Davos. Quick, Kernen, and Sorkin were in Davos last week interviewing global government and business leaders. Monday was their first day back in New York. The change in Sorkin’s tone was remarkable. He almost gushed about President Trump. You would have to be familiar with the show to understand the gravity of that change.
What caused Sorkin to change his mind? He didn’t get the go-ahead from “liberal progressive” Democrats in the U.S. He got the message from global leaders in business and government. They were telling him that President Trump is doing a fabulous job. They told him that they were moving billions of dollars in investments to the U.S. and lots of jobs to boot. They also told him that they were going to copy Trump’s strategy in their countries. That’s the highest form of flattery in the world of politics, government, and business.
The facts on the ground in Davos demolished the Democrat talking points that Sorkin had been parroting as facts since last November, and he said as much. Smart people are willing to change their minds when facts lead them in another direction. As I said, Sorkin is smart.
Bottom line: President Trump’s strategy is working. Global leaders in business and government are following him. That makes President Trump the leader of global leaders.
Things are changing because there is a gigantic performance difference between the political agendas of President Trump and his lackluster predecessor. “Liberal progressive” Democrats can’t see it, but real leaders across the globe can.
The “liberal progressive” political agenda espoused by Obama and other Democrats is rapidly taking its place on the back burner. It’s not dead because “liberal progressive” Democrats have staked their careers on it. We can’t ignore it, but I think we can safely say that President Trump has turned the corner.
