Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian leaders are upset with Israel for declaring that sites in the West Bank are important to Israel and the Jewish people. They are particularly disturbed that Israel has declared Hebron an “Israel heritage site”. According to one of the articles in today’s SnyderTalk, Abbas even threatened to go to war over this issue. He and other Palestinian leaders have a sordid history of denying Israel’s connection with Eretz Yisrael, including the Temple Mount, so let’s look at the facts in this case.

Today I’ll show where Yahweh’s Name belongs in 2 Thessalonians 3:

2 Thessalonians 3

  1. Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; 
  2. and that we will be rescued from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith. 
  3. But Yahweh is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
  4. We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. 
  5. May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ. 
  6. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us. 
  7. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, 
  8. nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; 
  9. not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example. 
  10. For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. 
  11. For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 
  12. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread. 
  13. But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good. 
  14. If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame. 
  15. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. 
  16. Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all! 
  17. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, and this is a distinguishing mark in every letter; this is the way I write.

Yahweh Appears to Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and 70 Elders of Israel

After Yahweh gave the Ten Commandments, He instructed Moses to bring his brother Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and 70 elders from Israel up to meet with Him on Mount Sinai.  They climbed to the top of the mountain, and they looked upon Yahweh (Exodus 24: 10) while they ate a meal in His presence. (Exodus 24: 11)  The Tanach describes Yahweh’s appearance this way: “They saw the God of Israel, and under His feet was the likeness of sapphire brickwork, and it was like the essence of the heaven in purity.  Against the great men of the Children of Israel, He did not stretch out His hand—they gazed at God, yet they ate and drank.” (Exodus 24: 10-11)

This depiction is almost identical to the description of the Messiah in the book of Revelation. (Revelation 1: 12-16 and 4: 1-6)  The significance of this fact will become apparent later when I discuss the Messiah.

News Items of Interest:

Commonsense: Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian leaders are upset with Israel for declaring that sites in the West Bank are important to Israel and the Jewish people.  They are particularly disturbed that Israel has declared Hebron an “Israel heritage site”.  According to one of the articles in today’s SnyderTalk, Abbas even threatened to go to war over this issue.  He and other Palestinian leaders have a sordid history of denying Israel’s connection with Eretz Yisrael, including the Temple Mount, so let’s look at the facts in this case.

These are the facts about Hebron in the Bible:

  1. Hebron is mentioned by name in the Old Testament 67 times.
  2. Hebron is also referred to in the Bible as “the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre”.
  3. Abraham built an altar to Yahweh in Hebron. (Genesis 13: 18)
  4. Abraham’s wife, Sarah, is buried in Hebron. (Genesis 23: 19)
  5. Abraham is buried in Hebron. (Genesis 25: 8-10)
  6. Isaac, Rebekah, and Leah are buried in Hebron. (Genesis 49: 31)
  7. Jacob, whose name Yahweh changed to Israel, is buried in Hebron. (Genesis 50: 13)

The facts line up perfectly with Israel’s claim.  It should be obvious to any rational person that Hebron is an important place to Israel and the Jewish people.  To believe otherwise is delusional at best.  Denying that reality defies logic and borders on insanity, but this isn’t the first time Abbas has demonstrated disturbing behavior where Israel is concerned.  Take a look at a few excerpts from his dissertation:

  • “Having more (Holocaust) victims meant greater rights and stronger privilege to join the negotiation table for dividing the spoils of war once it (World War II) was over. However, since Zionism was not a fighting partner—suffering victims in a battle—it had no escape but to offer up human beings, under any name, to raise the number of victims, which they could then boast of at the moment of accounting.”
  • “It seems that the interest of the Zionist movement…is to inflate this figure (Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust) so that their gains will be greater.  This led them to emphasize this figure in order to gain the solidarity of international public opinion with Zionism.  Many scholars have debated the figure of six million and reached stunning conclusions—fixing the number of Jewish victims at only a few hundred thousand.”
  • “Following the war, word was spread that six million Jews were amongst the victims and that a war of extermination was aimed primarily at the Jews….The truth is that no one can either confirm or deny this figure.  In other words, it is possible that the number of Jewish victims reached six million, but at the same time it is possible that the figure is much smaller—below one million.”

My first reaction to Abbas’ remarks is that he is an unapologetic Jew-hater.  I would say that he is an anti-Semite, but like the Jews, the Palestinians are Semites.  My second thought is that Abbas is no scholar.  Given the mountains of hard evidence about what happened to the Jewish people during the Holocaust, only an idiot or a deranged nincompoop would waste his time trying to disprove a certifiable fact.  The Nazis were notorious for keeping good records, and their data tell the tale.  My final thought is that Abbas is no peacemaker.  He’s certainly no peace partner for Israel.  Like Yasser Arafat, his mission in life is to destroy Israel.  Ignoring that fact will prove to be very costly.

Commonsense: From the article above—“Although Dubai’s police chief, Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, has said he is nearly ‘100 percent’ certain that Mossad masterminded the killing, the new details add at least one incongruous wrinkle. Two of the suspects allegedly left Dubai on a ship bound for Iran—Israel’s archenemy—after an alleged reconnaissance trip in August.”  In the end, it will become obvious to everyone except the real Jew-haters that the Dubai assassination was not a Mossad operation.  Even Hamas thinks it was a Fatah operation.  That speaks volumes.
